The 26-year-old Euro 2004 star left the AOL-Arena for Serie A last week and Hamburg daily Morgenpost believes that Club Brugge's David Rozehnal and Slovan Liberec's Jan Polak are the favourites to replace the gifted defender.
"I was told that I am able to reinvest the complete amount," said coach Klaus Toppmoller, who will make the search for a new central defender his top priority while he is also keen to find a holding midfielder.
Rozehnal and Polak, both full internationals in Karel Bruckner's team, are believed to be available for around é¼2 million each, but should the Rothosen be unable to complete a deal, director of sport Dietmar Beiersdorfer could make use of his contacts in Italy again.
Italian giants Milan are reportedly looking to loan out Argentine starlet Fabricio Coloccini and Hamburg could be the right place for the talented 22-year-old before returning to the San Siro as a more mature player.
