However, despite his admission, Rui Costa insists that he was never close to a return.
''I'm not involved in the speeches that have been made this summer,'' said Rui Costa.
''Former Fiorentina coach Emiliano Mondonico had a dream and I've thanked him for the kind words - but nothing else.
''Neither Milan or Fiorentina or me have ever thought of a transfer.
''I still have a lot of respect for the Viola jersey but these three years in Milan have been wonderful.''
