Mathieu Flamini has admitted he is still hopeful of playing at the World Cup after starting to play more regularly for AC Milan.
The midfielder's chances of going to South Africa with France appeared slim earlier in the season when he was getting fewer opportunities to impress at club level.
But he has impressed in recent weeks and was especially proud to start against Manchester United in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League tie.
Flamini is now aiming for a place in Raymond Domenech's final 23-man squad this summer.
He told L'Equipe: "I feel very fine in my life both as a man and a footballer.
"Being in the starting XI at Old Trafford gave me huge inside happiness.
"The World Cup? Of course, it remains in my mind."
Ups and downs
Flamini is happy with the way he battled through a difficult period to establish himself as a key player for Milan.
"I never complained earlier this season. You have to accept a career is made of ups and downs," he said.
"I worked twice as hard because I have always accepted competition.
"In the midfield at Milan, there are World Cup champions and living legends.
"At Arsenal too, it was not that easy. But as time passed I made a name for myself."
