Empoli defender Sanchez Cribari will be sidelined for a month after undergoing surgery on his fractured cheekbone.
Cribari suffered three small fractures during Empoli's Serie A tussle with Chievo Verona last Sunday.
The Brazilian stopper was unable to shrug off the effects of the damage and it was decided an operation would be the best course of action.
Surgeons inserted a patch to aid his recovery but he is unlikely to don an Empoli shirt again for at least a month.
Empoli are confident the 23-year-old will be able to resume running on Monday and expect the defender to make a full recovery.
Cribari is also anticipated to wear a protective mask when he makes his playing comeback around the start of December.
