Roma match Inter's win as Milan close on Fiorentina

Roma continued their pursuit of leaders Internazionale with victory over Napoli, Juventus tightened their grip on third, while Milan closed the gap on fourth-placed Fiorentina. Catania moved out of the Serie A relegation zone by beating bottom club Cagliari, but Empoli drop into the bottom three after losing at home to Milan. After Inter's 2-0 home win over Reggina on Saturday, Roma responded with a 2-0 success of their own as Luciano Spalletti's side won at Napoli. Simone Perrotta gave Roma the perfect start with a goal on two minutes and Francesco Totti's penalty early in the second half ensured the gap to Inter is back to six points. In the evening kick-off, Juventus proved too strong for Genoa after recording a 2-0 away success. Zdenek Grygera opened the scoring after 25 minutes and, eight minutes later, French ace David Trezeguet put Juve in total command. After crashing out of the UEFA Champions League in midweek, Milan boosted their prospects of entry into next season's competition with a 3-1 victory at struggling Empoli. Brazilian sensation Alexandre Pato gave Milan the lead on 19 minutes, only for Empoli to draw level five minutes later through Antonio Busce. Milan's lead was only restored four minutes from time through Massimo Ambrosini and Kaka made the game safe in the 89th minute. Fiorentina are now just one point ahead of Milan after slipping to a 1-0 defeat at Siena. Massimo Maccarone scored the game's only goal 10 minutes from time and was promptly sent off for picking up a second yellow card for his celebration. Cagliari are starting to get cast adrift at the foot of the table after a 2-1 defeat at fellow strugglers Catania. Daniele Conti put Cagliari ahead on 21 minutes, but Christian Silvestri equalised for Catania two minutes from the break and Michele Canini put through his own net early in the second half. Simone Barone's 36th minute goal secured Torino a 1-0 home win over Atalanta, who had Maximiliano Pellegrino sent off moments after the decisive strike. Tommaso Rocchi and Goran Pandev netted in the first half as Lazio eased to a 2-0 home triumph over Livorno. Parma continue to toil at the bottom end of the table after losing 2-1 at home to Sampdoria. The visitors took an 11th minute lead through Cristian Maggio before Parma's Andrea Gasbarroni missed from the penalty spot five minutes into the second half. Former Parma striker Emiliano Bonazzoli made it 2-0 on 56 minutes before substitute Igor Budan grabbed a consolation for the hosts on 67 minutes.
