Palermo have revealed that Milan are trying to sign central defender Andrea Barzagli.

Palermo have revealed that Milan are trying to sign their central defender Andrea Barzagli.

The Italy international has emerged as a leading transfer target for Milan, with Palermo confirming the interest in the stopper.

Barzagli has established himself as the lynchpin of the Palermo back-line after joining the club in the summer of 2004.

He is rated in the ‚é¼12 million (£8 million) bracket by the Sicilian side, who are coming round to the idea of selling him to Milan.

Though a deal may be placed on hold until the end of the season, Palermo sporting director Rino Foschi acknowledged that Milan are on Barzagli's trail.

"Milan like Barzagli a lot," Foschi told Corriere dello Sport.

"And I will tell you more. They are following him with a really big interest and I hope he could join the Rossoneri because Andrea is the ideal player for San Siro.

"Before now it was impossible to talk about it, but over the next months₻"

Milan are believed to be reticent about meeting Palermo's valuation and are likely to spend the next few months haggling over the price, with a view to a summer transfer.
