Europa League: Lyon thrash AZ Alkmaar while Fiorentina crash out

Lyon cruised through to the last 16 of the Europa League with a thumping 11-2 aggregate win over AZ Alkmaar.

Nabil Fekir's hat-trick helped the Ligue 1 side to a 7-1 win in the second leg, with Gnaly Maxwel Cornet, Sergi Darder, Houssem Aouar and Mouctar Diakhaby also getting on the scoresheet.

Lars Stindl also fired a hat-trick as Borussia Monchengladbach hit back from 3-0 down on aggregate to beat Fiorentina 4-3.

Fiorentina, 1-0 first-leg winners in Germany, were cruising after Nikola Kalinic and Borja Valero scored inside the first 30 minutes.

But Stindl converted a 44th-minute penalty for Oliveira's push on Patrick Herrmann and struck twice more in the space of eight minutes before Andreas Christensen made it 4-2 on the night in the 60th minute.

While Spurs went out after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Gent, Rostov eased through 5-1 on aggregate against Sparta Prague as an early goal from Dmitry Poloz helped secure the Russians a 1-1 draw on the night following their 4-0 first-leg home victory.

Sparta, who had Costa Nhamoinesu sent off for two yellow cards, salvaged a draw through Vyacheslav Karavaev's late consolation.

Roma slipped up at home and had Antonio Rudiger sent off in a 1-0 defeat to Villarreal, but went through 4-1 on aggregate.

The Italians, 4-0 first-leg winners in Spain, saw their 16-game unbeaten home run halted as Rafael Santos Borre pounced on Thomas Vermaelen's error to score the only goal in the 15th minute, while Rudiger was shown his second yellow card in the 81st minute.

Apoel Nicosia ousted Athletic Bilbao 4-3 on aggregate after a 2-0 home win, in which both sides had a man sent off.

Pieros Sotiriou gave Apoel a 46th-minute lead and Giannis Gianniotas struck the Cypriots' decisive second from the penalty spot after he had been fouled by Mikel Balenziaga.

Sotiriou was dismissed for his second yellow card with 25 minutes left, but Athletic could not make their advantage count and the Spaniards had Ander Iturraspe sent off for his second bookable offence in stoppage time.

Ajax clinched a 1-0 aggregate win against Legia Warsaw after Nick Viergever struck the only goal of the tie in Amsterdam.

Viergever scored from close range early in the second half as Ajax knocked out the Polish side in the round of 32 for the second time in three seasons.

Besiktas secured their passage by beating Hapoel Beer Sheva 2-1 on the night and 5-2 on aggregate.

Vincent Aboubakar scored in the first period for Besiktas, 3-1 first-leg winners in Israel, and after Anthony Nwakaeme had equalised for Beer Sheva early in the second period, Cenk Tosun sealed victory for the Turks in the 87th minute.

Kiese Thelin's last-gasp header clinched Anderlecht victory on away goals after a 3-1 defeat to Zenit St Petersburg in Russia saw them draw 3-3 on aggregate.

Anderlecht, 2-0 first-leg winners, appeared to be heading out after goals in either half from Zenit midfielder Giuliano sandwiched Artem Dzyuba's 74th-minute effort, but Thelin nodded in his first goal for Anderlecht in the final minute.

Alejandro Pozuelo's second-half goal sealed Genk a 1-0 home win against Romanians Astra Giurgiu and a 3-2 aggregate victory, while FC Copenhagen's 0-0 draw against Lugogorets in Denmark ensured they went through 3-2 on aggregate.

Olympiacos reached the last 16 thanks to Karim Ansarifard's double in a 3-0 win in Turkey against Osmanlispor.

After a goalless first leg in Greece, Ansarifard struck twice in the second half, either side of Tarik Elyounoussi's header as Olympiacos became the first team to beat Osmanlispor on home soil in the Europa League this season.

Gustavo Cabral's extra-time winner sealed a dramatic 2-1 aggregate win for Celta Vigo against Shaktar Donetsk after the Spaniards won 2-0 in Ukraine.

Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Celta levelled the tie in stoppage time when Iago Aspas converted a penalty following goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov's foul on John Guidetti, and Cabral headed home a corner in the second period of extra time
