Midfielder brushes off transfer talk

Josip Ilicic has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Palermo and set his sights on a successful end to the season. The Slovenian midfielder has enjoyed an excellent first season in Serie A after switching to Palermo from homeland club Maribor last summer. Ilicic's agent, Amir Ruznic, claimed back in February that English clubs were 'going crazy' for the 23-year-old, with Chelsea leading the chase. Ilicic, however, has now stressed that he is paying no attention to the transfer talk as he is settled in Sicily. "I have a four-year contract and I am happy at Palermo," he explained. "I don't know if there are other teams following me and I am not even planning to discuss my contract again. "I am not thinking about it because my job is on the pitch and in training. "The contract is up to my agent and (Palermo owner) Maurizio Zamparini."

Important

Palermo are currently eighth in Serie A and have made it through to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia, where they are level with AC Milan at 2-2 after the first leg. Asked to reveal whether he would prefer to qualify for Europe or win the Coppa Italia, Ilicic replied: "Both. We aren't making a choice. "Both objectives are important and possible given the way we are playing right now. "We are interested in getting into Europe as it would mean that we are one of the best teams in Serie A."
