Italy striker set for six weeks on the sidelines

Fiorentina have confirmed that Alberto Gilardino is facing a spell on the sidelines after fracturing his left tibia. The 29-year-old striker suffered the injury following a collision with Udinese goalkeeper Samir Handanovic. Fiorentina suffered a 2-0 defeat and the Italy international will now spend six weeks on the sidelines. He also suffered a knee ligament injury and has been ordered to have three weeks complete rest before returning to training. The weekend loss left Viola with three points two games into the start of the new Serie A season.
