Club insist star will not be sold in January

Palermo midfielder Josip Ilicic will not be leaving the club in the January transfer window, according to the club's chairman and the player's agent. A number of Premier League sides including Chelsea and Tottenham have been linked with the attacking midfielder after a string of impressive performances for the Rosanero. Serie A duo Juventus and Fiorentina have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old Slovenia international. However, Palermo chairman, Guglielmo Micciche, denied any club had been in discussions over a deal and stated his belief that the star will stay until at least the end of the season. He told tuttomercatoweb.com: "I've read a lot about the future of Ilicic, but I can reiterate that the boy will stay with us, certainly till June. "He may appeal to many teams, I read about some English clubs, Juventus and Fiorentina, but no one came to ask about him. He's a key element in Palermo and we have no intention to lose him." Ilicic's agent, Amir Ruznic, echoed Micciche's comments but also hinted that a deal may be agreed next summer. "I really don't believe Ilicic will leave Palermo in January," he told tuttomercatoweb.com. "In recent days I spoke to the club and no one told me anything. I don't know anything about it. "Perhaps there have been contacts between the clubs but at the moment none of these clubs have spoken to me. "In any case, it would not be easy to replace him midway through the season. However, perhaps in June it would be a different story. "Ilicic is a player of great value and has great technique and quality. I could see him doing well in a big club."
