The former Manchester United player hurt his right knee, the joint in which he has already undergone two operations to reconstruct cruciate ligaments, in January.
And speaking to Sports Illustrated, Rossi admitted that he had one target in mind.
"I'm continuing the rehabilitation day by day and the recovering is going well," he said. "I'll need time again, but I feel good. It's hard not being able to enter the pitch.
"My aim is to come back in action before the end of the season, to play in the Italian league and then the World Cup in Brazil."
Rossi joined Fiorentina in January 2013 but has struggled with injury since his move from Villarreal.
He added: "I want to come back playing and scoring, but I must be careful in order to avoid future injuries. I thank Fiorentina because they have always believed in me.
"Finding a club like them after two years out due to injury is not easy. I thank them for the support."
