Both sides took time to find their feet but just past the half-hour mark, Udinese struck.
Giampiero Pinzi got the all-important goal that took the home side into half time with their noses in front.
Strugglers Lecce tried to find a way back into the game, but a stubborn Udinese back line refused to be breached and in the end they held on for all three points.
Perugia came so close to securing their first league win of the season against Sampdoria at Stadio Renato Curi but had to settle for a point after a 3-3 draw.
The first half ended with the scores at 1-1 after Giovanni Ignoffo cancelled out Sampdoria's Francesco Flachi's opener.
Two goals in three minutes from Massimo Margiotta and Giovanni Tedesco gave Perugia a 3-1 lead, before Cristiano Doni pulled one back on the hour mark and threw everything at Perugia.
Serse Cosmi's men looked to have held on to claim all the points, until Flachi popped up in the last minute to earn a precious point.
