Messina snap up Yanagisawa

Serie A new boys Messina have made Japan's Atsushi Yanagisawa their first signing of the summer.

The Japanese international has signed a one-year loan deal with Messina from Kashima Antlers.

Yanagisawa spent last season on loan at Sampdoria, but they decided not to sign him permanently after a disappointing campaign last term.

Yanagisawa failed to score in any of his 15 appearances last year after arriving on loan from Kashima.

Messina president Pietro Franza was delighted to sign Yanagisawa.

"He wants to make up for last term," said Franza. "His arrival opens new frontiers for our city."

Messina have been looking to bolster their attack as they prepare for life in Italy's top-flight next season and Yanagisawa could be the first of many new arrivals this summer.
