Falcone commits to Samp

Sampdoria defender Giulio Falcone has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Sampdoria defender Giulio Falcone has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

Falcone had been considering his future in Genoa, with his previous deal due to expire in the summer.

He had offers from Italy and abroad and voiced his frustration back in January regarding Samp's reluctance to open talks regarding an extension.

The Serie A side admitted they would not be held to ransom by Falcone as they wanted to stick to their wage structure.

A compromise now appears to have been reached after the 30-year-old penned a deal to keep him at Luigi Ferraris until 2007.

A key factor in Falcone accepting the deal on offer was the knee injury he suffered against Cagliari in April which has forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Falcone's ligament damage scuppered any chance of a contract elsewhere and he has pledged his future to Samp, who he joined from Bologna two years ago.
