MATCH-FIXING SCANDAL PLAYERS CLEARED

THE match-fixing trial that has gripped Italian football has ended with all six banned players from Atalanta and Pistoiese being cleared.

The Italian FA (FIGC) announced that six players, originally suspended after allegations of betting discrepancies from the two towns before a Serie B fixture last year, had seen bans lifted with immediate effect.

Atalanta's Fabio Gallo, Sebastiano Siviglia and Lauciano Zauri (pictured), along with former player Giacomo Banchelli - now at Empoli and Pistoiese's Afredo Aglietti and Massimiliano Allegri have all been cleared of the offences.

Atalanta president Ivan Ruggeri, who has always stood by his players, was relieved with the outcome.

"I'm a very happy man," Ruggeri said. "Finally justice has been done.

"I've always believed in sporting justice, even if, in the last few months, I have sometimes had to swallow bitter gall."
