The Argentine/Italian has stalled over a decision on which country he wishes to play international football for - but Trapattoni is keen to hand the Juventus man his first cap to settle the issue.
Trapattoni said: "I spoke to him about a month ago and now I'm waiting for his input.
"You have to bear in mind that Argentina are also poised.
"It depends on him, but from my point of view I would love to be able to call him up immediately."
Trapattoni saw Juve held to a 1-1 draw by Atalanta, and he wanted to make it clear that watching the game was his main reason for attending.
"You ask only about Camoranesi when I am here to watch a good match.
"I have seen a very entertaining game and Atalanta's Alex Pinardi scored a fine goal."
Trapattoni may well get his wish and be able to field Camoranesi in an Italy shirt, if Juve general manager Luciano Moggi is to be believed.
Following the game, Moggi revealed: "This morning he gave me permission to say he chooses the Italian national team."
Trapattoni may well include Camoranesi in his plans for the friendly with Portugal on February 12.
