The first leg of the play-off finished 0-0 which meant Reggina were up against it, but goals from Francesco Cozza and Emiliano Bonazzoli cancelled out Cesare Natali`s earlier effort and sent Atalanta into the second division.
Cozza (pictured) could not contain his joy, saying: "It's a big emotion and a big joy.
"I've scored five goals this season, but this one is absolutely the most important one. Thanks to all my team-mates."
Things looked good for Atalanta when Natali fired them in front from a corner, but Reggina drew level shortly after the half-hour mark when Cozza beat Massimo Taibi.
Atalanta poured forward after the break, as they needed to win due to Reggina grabbing an away goal but they were thwarted on a number of occasions by keeper Emanuele Belardi.
The home appeared to run out of ideas and they were rocked five minutes from time when Bonazzoli shot home to preserve Reggina`s Serie A status.
