AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani says he has promised Carlos Tevez that the Serie A champions will 'wait for him' until the end of the January.

Milan rule out bid to sign Lopez as alternative to Man City striker

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani says he has promised Carlos Tevez that the Serie A champions will 'wait for him' until the end of the January transfer window. Tevez is expected to leave Manchester City next month after failing to feature for the club since the infamous UEFA Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich in September. City have already rejected an offer from Milan to take Tevez on loan with a view to a permanent deal, with manager Roberto Mancini insisting on a New Year sale. Milan held talks with their City counterparts on Thursday and the Italian giants were satisfied with the outcome of the discussions. However, a deal has still to be agreed between the two clubs and the Rossoneri were linked with a move to sign Tevez's fellow Argentine striker Maxi Lopez from Catania as a back-up.

Tough

Galliani has now ruled out a deal for Lopez after reiterating that Milan are willing to wait until the final day of the transfer window to agree a deal for Tevez. "Will Tevez be a Christmas present for the fans? It's tough in a period of economic difficulty, but we will try to keep the supporters happy," told Sky Sport Italia. "Maxi Lopez? Catania have been very kind and open, but I made a promise to Carlitos that we'll wait for him until January 31. "If Tevez does not arrive, then we will stay as we are." Meanwhile, veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi has been tipped to leave Milan in January and Galliani concedes he could move on. "Pippo's dream is to set the record for European goals," added Galliani. "He'll try to achieve that either with Milan or another club in the Europa League."
