Stuttgart coach Matthias Sammer was satisifed after his team drew 0-0 at Parma.Stuttgart coach Matthias Sammer was confident after his team returned from their Uefa Cup third round first leg trip to Parma with a goalless draw.
The German side started positively and created early chances for Cacau and Alexander Hleb, but were grateful to goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand for some fine saves during the second half at the Ennio Tardini.
"We had some chances and started well, but it became obvious that after recent poor results, we lacked confidence and in the end we could have even lost the game," explained Sammer.
"I lacked important players on the wings, but those who stepped in made a decent job, although I have to say that we need to improve."
Parma coach Pietro Carmignani, whose main priority is Serie A survival, rested goalkeeper Sebastien Frey and striker Alberto Gilardino.
Stuttgart midfielder Silvio Meissner admitted that his team struggled to deal with Parma's physical approach during the second half.
"We lost our rhythm, somehow, after the Italians decided to take a rougher stand after the break, but 0-0 away from home is not a bad result," said Meissner.
