Bologna took a huge step towards Serie A safety following a 1-0 win at Parma.Bologna have taken a huge step towards Serie A safety following a 1-0 win at Parma in the first leg of their relegation play-off.
Parma, suffering from six suspensions including stars Alberto Gilardino, Domenico Morfeo, Jorge Bolano and Daniele Bonera, failed to cope with their depleted side.
The Rossoblu took an early lead when Albanian Igli Tare headed home Valentin Nastase's cross to give his side what could prove to be a crucial away goal.
A tense affair saw both sides miss good chances, although it was Parma who came closest and they had three penalty appeals turned down.
Tensions between the two teams overflowed in the final minute when both coaches, Pietro Carmignani and Carlo Mazzone, were dismissed along with a player from each bench - namely Christian Amoroso and home goalkeeper Luca Bucci - following a mass brawl.
The two sides - who finished level on points during the domestic campaign - will now meet on Sunday to determine who will remain in Serie A.
However, because of their red cards - neither coach will be allowed on the bench for the crucial game at The Stadio Renato Della`Ara.
