Palermo defender Mattia Cassani has declared his intention to remain loyal to the club.

Defender committed to honouring contract

Palermo defender Mattia Cassani has declared his intention to remain loyal to the club. Cassani has caught the eye with a number of impressive performances so far this season and speculation has surfaced regarding his future. A number of clubs are thought to be interested in securing his services but Cassani has vowed to honour his contract. The 26-year-old signed a new deal earlier this season to keep him at Stadio Renzo Barbera until 2013. "Should an offer from a big club arrive, I won't even think about it," Cassani is quoted as saying by TMW. "I want to respect the contract that I renewed in September. The club has placed great faith in me, and I hope to continue on repaying it. "I am happy at Palermo, as are my family, so there are no motivations to leave."

Italy hope

Cassani remains hopeful of breaking into the Italy squad despite having never previously made an international appearance. "(Marcello) Lippi has stated openly that everyone can be called up," he said. "Certainly, the fact that I am young could help my cause, and (Rosanero team-mate Federico) Balzaretti, but it should become our obsessions. "The Azzurri call-up only comes when you play well for your team."
