Stuttgart and Hannover both picked up valuable wins to move out of the bottom three of the Bundesliga on Sunday.

The Swabians inflicted the first away defeat of the season on Darmstadt with an own goal from Gyorgy Garics and a late Timo Werner effort earning them a 2-0 win.

It was only the third win of the season for Alexander Zorniger's men, although they had to survive an onslaught from their opponents to hold on to victory.

The win lifted them above Werder Bremen into 15th place, but they would have been one position higher had Hannover not shocked Hamburg with a 2-1 win at the Volksparkstadion.

Hamburg, who could have climbed into the top six with a win, took the lead through Michael Gregoritsch early on and they had numerous chances to add to that lead.

Hannover hit back in the second half, however, with goals from Hiroshi Kiyotake and Salif Sane turning the game around before Michael Frontzeck's men resolutely defended their slender advantage to climb to 14th.
