Tottenham Hotspur winger Keanan Bennetts is the latest Premier League prospect to head to the Bundesliga after joining Borussia Monchengladbach, but how have other British youngsters got on in the German top flight?

Here, we look at four players who have broadened their horizons and moved to Germany in the last couple of seasons.

Jadon Sancho

How has he fared?

Manchester City forward Sancho signed for Borussia Dortmund last summer for around £8m in what appeared a leftfield move. Aged 17 when he joined the Bundesliga club, the London-born forward took the No 7 shirt previously worn by Barcelona-bound Ousmane Dembele and quickly caught the eye.

The U17 World Cup winner made 12 league appearances this season, netting his first goal in April's 4-0 defeat of Bayer Leverkusen, as well as having a hand in four others.

That debut strike meant Sancho - called a "super young player" by England boss Gareth Southgate - became the youngest Englishman to score in the German top flight at the age of 18 years and 27 days.

Marco Reus said of the youngster after his eye-catching display against Leverkusen at Signal Iduna Park: "I wasn't that far at his age. How he controls the ball to set up the 3-0, that shows everything. So much respect."

And Dortmund's sporting director Michael Zorc was also impressed with the youngster's contribution that afternoon, claiming: "Jadon was just outstanding for an 18-year-old."

Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl has since talked up Sancho's carefree attitude, saying: "I think that Jadon Sancho's insouciance helps us quite a bit because he doesn't worry but just plays football."

Ademola Lookman

How has he fared?

Then-Everton boss Sam Allardyce claimed he tried to persuade Lookman against moving to Germany but the Londoner has been a real hit in the German top flight since joining RB Leipzig on loan in February.

The England U21 international forward made a fine start to life at the Red Bull Arena, grabbing the winner against Monchengladbach only minutes after making his Bundesliga debut in early February.

Lookman netted five goals in 11 games for the club, including three in his last two, as they narrowly missed out on Champions League qualification.

Those stats strikingly meant he had the best goals-minutes ratio in the Bundesliga behind only one man: Robert Lewandowski.

What they said

Asked if the club wanted to turn Lookman's loan spell into a permanent move this summer, Leipzig sporting director Ralf Rangnick said: "If it were down to us, I'd already know the answer."

After the player's strike against Monchengladbach, Leipzig manager Ralph Hasenhuttl said: "What we saw on the goal - it's exactly what I hoped for from him. He has real quality one on one."

But Hasenhuttl had a light-hearted warning for the youngster, adding: "He was lucky I didn't take him off again. He only brought one pair of boots with him from England and he was sliding around all over the pitch!"

Oliver Burke

How did he fare?

In 2016-17, Kirkcaldy-born Burke raised eyebrows when he joined Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig at the age of 19, going on to make 25 appearances for the Bulls.

The Scotland international helped Leipzig to a second-placed finish which earned qualification for the Champions League, contributing just one goal and two assists in his 25 top-flight games for the club, before joining West Brom last summer for £15m.

What they said

"When we saw and scouted him we could easily see the weapons he has," said Rangnick after Burke's arrival at the club. "He's very powerful, very fast and physically strong. He's good on the ball for a player of that size and that tempo. Where he still has to improve is tactically - 'when do I have to do what?' - our style of football is a little bit different from what he was used to in England.

"Obviously those are things that nobody has told him in the past and he has to learn that. He has improved, but there is still plenty of room for further improvement."

Hasenhuttl echoed those sentiments when he warned that Burke's "hard drive with regard to work off the ball is empty".

Reece Oxford

How has he fared?

Last summer, aged 18, West Ham prospect Oxford headed to Borussia-Park for a loan deal which ended after four appearances in December. However, the midfielder rejoined the Foals at the end of January, playing four more matches.

Oxford admitted he had been "desperate" to return and is hoping for a permanent stay in Germany.

What they said?

"It was very important for us that Reece could come back to Monchengladbach," said the club's sporting director Max Eberl after Oxford's return in January.

"We're particularly pleased that a player who didn't play every game - in fact, he only played four - was still really keen to return. He saw what we had promised him in the summer was beginning to happen."
