Hamburg moved out of the relegation zone with their first win of the season.
Hamburg moved out of the relegation zone with their first win of the Bundesliga season on Sunday, whilst Eintracht Frankfurt drew with FC Nurnberg.
Thomas Doll alleviated some of the pressure surrounding his position thanks to a brace from Jose Paolo Guerrero in a 2-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen.
It was the home side who took the lead when Andrei Voronin capitalised on a mix-up in the Hamburg defence to score after 40 minutes.
However the introduction of Guerrero on 69 minutes proved to be pivotal as the Peruvian scored inside 60 seconds, rolling home Piotr Trochowski's cross.
On 89 minutes Guerrero completed his match-winning cameo by converting a cross from Argentinian international Juan Pablo Sorin.
Nurnberg missed the chance to move into the top three after being held to a 2-2 draw at Eintract Frankfurt.
A quickfire start at the Commerzbank-Arena saw Ivan Saenko (5) reply to Ioannis Amanatidis' penalty after four minutes.
After then taking the lead through Javier Pinola (50), Hamburg were pegged back six minutes later by Albert Streit.
