Midfielder out for six weeks; new deal for Jensen

Torsten Frings' comeback from injury has been dealt a further blow after he picked up an injury in training. The 31-year-old has barely played this season after suffering a knee injury in pre-season and then suffering a relapse as he attempted a comeback in October. Frings looked to have finally shaken off the medial knee ligament problem, but he sustained a similar injury while training with Bremen on Tuesday. The Germany international will now be sidelined for six weeks; and he has spoken of his anguish at the setback.

Bad luck

"I feel overpowered by bad luck, I cannot explain how it happened," he said. Head coach Thomas Schaaf has rued Frings' absence, explaining that he hoped to have the midfielder at his disposal for the second half of the current campaign - which gets back underway in February. "It is a situation which is far from being satisfactory for us, we really counted on him for the second phase of the Bundesliga," he added. There is some positive news for Schaaf, though, following Daniel Jensen's decision to pen a new deal that will keep him at the club until 2011. Schaaf said: "Daniel has shown consistently this season what he had shown only occasionally in previous years. He is an important part of the team."
