France have suffered a major blow ahead of their World Cup play-off with Republic of Ireland as Franck Ribery has learnt he will likely be out for another month.
The talismanic Bayern Munich schemer has been hampered by tendinitis in his left knee all season and missed Wednesday night's UEFA Champions League defeat to Bordeaux as a consequence.
French daily L'Equipe is reporting Ribery went to see a knee specialist this week in Strasbourg and that the diagnosis ruled him out of next month's key internationals.
France play Ireland in a two-legged play-off on 14th November and 18th for a place in next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.
It looks as though they will have to do so without the influential Ribery as his club coach Louis Van Gaal said: "We want to help him recover from this injury.
"But I can't tell you how long he will be sidelined. It could last one month, but it's not for sure."
