Giant defender to sign professional terms after making first team

French defender Jackson Mendy is set to sign professional terms with Freiburg after making the first team. The giant Frenchman joined on amateur terms in the summer from Hansa Rostock and has been a regular for the club's fourth tier reserves. But he has started in the first team for the last two games - the 1-0 victory against Nurnberg and then the 2-2 draw at champions Wolfsburg - and is now set to be rewarded with a professional deal. Freiburg's general manager Dirk Dufner told Kicker-Sportmagazin: "We are ready to sign a professional deal with Jackson Mendy in the next couple of days."

Toprak return

Meanwhile, Germany U21 international defender Omar Toprak is set to return to first-team action with the Bundesliga outfit soon after recovering from a serious cart-racing accident this summer. Toprak sent weeks in intensive care following the accident but is now back in training with the club. Manager Robin Dutt said: "We are very hopeful - we are getting a sort of new signing due to him making such good progress in recovery. "I am able to witness his progress in training and I feel he is able to do more with the ball every single day. "I am delighted Omar Toprak is on his way back."
Transfer dealings
Dutt also revealed that the club will be looking to sign a striker in the January transfer window. Meanwhile, midfielders David Targamadze and Alain Olle Olle and striker Andreas Glockner will also be allowed out on loan to clubs in the second tier after failing to get enough playing time this season.
