Germany defender Arne Friedrich has admitted that he would willingly stay at Hertha Berlin and play in the second division next season but he expects to leave the club.
Hertha have been relegated from the Bundesliga and it does not appear that Friedrich's contract will be extended this summer to leave him free to find a new employer.
The 30-year-old admitted earlier in May that he was bracing himself to leave the club he joined in 2002 but he would happily play in Germany's second tier.
"If Hertha were to take the option (of extending my contract), then I would definitely stay to play in the second division," he told Sport1 television.
Instead, Friedrich sees his future in the Bundesliga rather than abroad, although he has had offers to leave Germany.
"I have considered it (moving abroad) and there were enquiries, but the tendency is towards the Bundesliga," he said.
"But there is no actual agreement with anybody yet."
Wolfsburg and Hamburg are both reported to be in talks with the player's agent, who is taking care of his client's affairs while he is concentrating on World Cup duty with Germany.
