Bayern Munich defender joins relegated outfit on one-year deal

Bayern Munich defender Christian Lell has joined relegated Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin on a one-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The 25-year-old has signed a contract which includes an option for a further two years should the club regain their top-flight status in the upcoming season. The move comes after the defender, who has played 91 Bundesliga matches for Bayern Munich and Cologne, had been on the verge of joining Stoke City last season. Hertha Berlin general manager Michael Preetz told the club's official website: "Christian Lell is a fantastic solution for our right full-back position. "He is a young player, but still experienced enough to be a great help for us with his speed and elegance." Lell had a year left on his deal at Bayern Munich but in the last couple of months had taken time out from training due to several issues in his private life.
