DI SALVO SET TO SNUB GERMANY

HANSA ROSTOCK forward Antonio di Salvo has pledged his allegiance to Italy amid claims that Rudi Voller wants him for the German national side.

The 22-year-old, who moved to Hansa in the close season from Bayern Munich, has already turned down an approach to play for the German juniors and is willing to wait for the Italian call, if it comes.

"I had offers to play for the Under-15 but Italian blood is flowing through my veins and I want the chance to play for Italy one day," explained di Salvo.

Germany have recruited the likes of Swiss-born Oliver Neuville, Brazilian-born Paulo Rink and Ghanaian Gerald Asamoah (pictured) for the improvement of the national side.

However, di Salvo, who was born in Paderborn to Italian parents, looks set to snub Rudi Voller's men and wait for the phone call from Giovanni Trappatoni.
