Giovane Elber (pictured) grabbed a brace in Bayern's 3-0 win over Leverkusen that stretched their lead at the top to 13 points thanks to Mikael Forssell's goal giving struggling Borussia Monchengladbach a 1-0 home win over second placed Dortmund.
Ottmar Hitzfeld's men took the lead over Bayer after just three minutes through Claudio Pizarro before Elber's brace sealed the second win over last season's runners-up in the space of a week and leaves Munich way out in front with just 11 games to play.
Dortmund slipped even further behind Bayern after on-loan Chelsea striker Forssell netted after 64 minutes to give Monchengladbach the vital three points that saw them climb out of the relegation zone.
Hertha Berlin produced the display of the day as they handed out a 6-0 beating to 1860 Munich, who also had Martin Stranzl sent off.
Marcelinho and Michael Preetz both got two goals and a Luizao strike made it five before a Simon Jentzsch own goal completed the mauling.
Energie Cottbus stay in the drop zone despite battling hard against Wolfsburg, but finally fell to a 3-2 away defeat.
Tomislav Maric's early opener was quickly cancelled out by Paulo Rink and Laurentin Reghecampf only for Roy Prager to send the sides in level at half time.
Robson Ponte then broke Energie's hearts by notching the winner just after the hour to give The Wolves a fine victory.
Schalke left it late to grab a point at home to Arminia Bielefeld after a Tomasz Waldoch own goal gave the visitors a lead just before the hour mark, with Sven Vermant firing in a late leveller in the final minute.
Stuttgart missed the chance to go into second place above Dortmund as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hamburg.
Kevin Kuranyi gave the hosts the lead after 20 minutes but then missed from the penalty pot 15 minutes later.
He was left ruing that miss when Mehdi Mahdavikia stepped up to get the visitors a point with his goal two minutes before half time.
Werder Bremen strengthened their case for a European place as goals from Ailton and Ivica Banovic gave them a 2-0 win at home to Bochum.
