Stuttgart knew that they could move to the pinnacle of the league, with Bayer Leverkusen not playing until Sunday, and they did just that with a victory.
Ioannis Amanatidis grabbed the only goal of the game, with 15 minutes on the clock.
Bayern were superb in a 4-1 win - with Sebastien Deisler and the prolific Roy Makaay both grabbing braces.
Kaisers did grab a consolation through Miroslav Klose, who made amends for an earlier penalty miss.
Werder Bremen also scored four in a victory over Freiburg, Johann Micoud, Ivan Klasnic and a brace from Ailton enough to earn points - despite two goals from Alexander Iaschwili.
Goals from Nico Frommer and Mehmet Dragusha handed Frankfurt a 2-0 win against FC Cologne, whilst Hannover 96 and 1860 Munich drew 1-1.
Both goals came within a minute, Mohammadou Idrissou scoring for the hosts, but Markus Weissenberger levelling almost immediately.
Luizao scored the only goal of the game as Hertha Berlin won away to Hansa Rostock, and Schalke came from two goals behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Hamburg.
Bernardo Romeo and Stefan Beinlich looked to have secured the points for Hamburg, but Anibal Matellan and Eduard Glieder.
