Schalke's veteran striker Ebbe Sand has signed a new one-year deal in Gelsenkirchen.

The 32-year-old Danish international star, who has four Bundesliga goals this term, has now committed himself to the Royal Blues until June 2006.

"It has always been my desire to end my career at Schalke," Sand said.

The popular striker arrived in Gelsenkirchen from Brondby in 1999 and has scored 64 goals in 165 Bundesliga games for the club.

Despite Ailton's arrival from Werder Bremen in the summer, Sand has kept his first team place under new coach Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick is delighted Sand has put pen-to-paper on a new team as he sees the striker as a key member of his squad..

"It's great. I'm really pleased that everything has worked out. Ebbe is an extremely important part of our team," said Rangnick.
