Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich had to come from behind to beat Cologne 2-1 on their travels.
Cologne had taken a surprise lead through Matthias Scherz in the 28th minute, an advantage they held until Lucio found a leveller in the second period.
The talented Brazilian equalised on 54 minutes, before Michael Ballack (pictured) stole maximum spoils with just over fifteen minutes remaining.
Second placed Werder Bremen also had to come from behind but an impressive second half display saw them destroy Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1.
Ioannis Amanatidis gave Frankfurt the lead on 19 minutes before Torsten Frings levelled matters a minute before the half hour mark.
In the second period Werder were too strong for their visitors as a brace from Tim Borowski (52 & 90) and one from Miroslav Klose (58) gave them an assured victory.
Mendi Mahdavikia's first half strike was enough to give Hamburg a 1-0 win over Schalke, whilst MSV Duisburg took the points against Wolfsburg thanks to Alexander Bugera's strike in the 57th minute.
Stuttgart and Hertha Berlin played out an entertaining 3-3 stalemate, with the latter having started the goalscoring on eight minutes through Ellery Cairo.
Danijel Ljuboja levelled for Stuttgart before Cacau gave them the lead on 65 minutes. A minute later and Hertha were level when Cacau netted before Marcelinho gave them the lead with 15 minutes left on the clock.
Stuttgart would be denied a share of the spoils though, as Mario Gomez ensured a point was gained as he scored with seven minutes left on the clock.
Kaiserslautern and Bayer Leverkusen could not be separated as they drew 2-2. Marco Engelhardt gave Kaiserslautern the lead on 32 minutes, before Tranquillo Barnetta (39) and Andrej Voronin (71) put Bayer in control.
However, the points were shared as Berkant Goktan found a timely equaliser in the final minute.
Borussia Dortmund were victors on home soil as they beat Borussia Monchengladbach 2-1.
Goals from Sebastian Kehl (21) and Eby Smolarek (90) did the damage before Oliver Neuville netted a consolation in stoppage time.
