Bayern Munich defeated second place Werder Bremen 3-1 on Saturday.Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of Die Bundesliga with a 3-1 home win over second place Werder Bremen.
Miroslav Klose gave Werder the lead in the first minute, but Bastian Schweinsteiger soon restored parity a minute later.
Claudio Pizarro gave the Bavarians the lead on 34 minutes and Roy Makaay wrapped up the scoring for Bayern just before half time.
Makaay will be particularly relieved to have scored on Saturday, having gone more than a 1,000 playing minutes without finding the scoresheet before then.
Schalke made easy work of struggling Duisburg after a 3-0 home success.
Kevin Kuranyi put the Royal Blues in front on 13 minutes before an Alexander Mayer own goal doubled Schalke's advantage in the second half.
Dario Rodriguez wrapped up the scoring for Schalke with a late third.
Hertha Berlin kept pace with the frontrunners after seeing off another struggling club in Kaiserslautern 3-0.
Marcelinho struck after seven minutes for Hertha and second half goals from Marko Pantelic (48) and Nando Rafael (52) sealed the points for home side.
Struggling Cologne earned a point at ten-man Wolfsburg following a 1-1 draw at the VW-Arena.
Diego Klimowicz gave Wolfsburg a half time lead, but after Kevin Hofland was sent off for a second bookable offence, Denis Epstein struck a late equaliser to earn Cologne a point.
Bayer Leverkusen defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 at the BayArena, with Juan giving the home side the lead on 33 minutes.
Lars Ricken levelled for Dortmund in the second half, but Bayer won the points through a Florian Kringe own goal in the dying stages.
Eintracht Frankfurt got goals from Francisco Copado (35) and Alexander Meier (48, 55) to defeat Arminia Bielefeld 3-0.
Finally, Hannover came from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with Mainz.
Manuel Friedrich (31) and Benjamin Auer (65) gave Mainz the advantage, but a Thomas Brdaric penalty with five minutes left allowed Michael Tarnat to dramatically equalise in injury time for a share of the spoils.
