Schalke manager Huub Stevens has rejected reports he no longer wants to work with Peru international Jefferson Farfan amid a breakdown in contract talks.
Speculation has suggested the Bundesliga club have withdrawn their most recent offer, because the former PSV Eindhoven star was unwilling to agree terms.
Farfan, whose current deal expires in the summer, was rumoured to be digging his heels in over a multi-million pound bonus if he was to sign a new long-term deal at Veltins-Arena.
Stevens has confirmed the club have been unable to meet some of the 27-year-old forward's demands, but has denied there has been any major bust-up.
The Schalke boss told
Deutsche Presseagentur: "We were simply unable to fulfil the demands put up by the agents of Jefferson.
"I am still hoping there will be a chance to bring them to their senses. Then we might be able to agree a new contract.
"Jefferson is a very important player of our first team. He is fully part of my future plans.
"I have also told him he needs to keep up his good form. Not just because of the future of our club, but also because of his very own future."
