The Austrian has been struggling with pain in his right knee and it is hoped that the cartilage surgery will clear up the problem although it is now unclear exactly how long the 27-year-old will be out of action.
"After Christian Fuchs had time and again been plagued with pain in his right knee, the left-back underwent surgery on Tuesday," read a statement on the club's website.
"The surgery, performed by Dr. Peter Auer Lech in the EMCO clinic in Salzburg, was without complications.
"How long Fuchs will be out exactly, is not yet clear. Over the next four weeks, the captain of the Austrian national team is to keep his knee rested, then the result of an MRI scan will decide the next steps."
Fuchs has been limited to just 16 first-team appearances this season.
Meanwhile, the Royal Blues have announced that they have tied three of their young prospects to first-team contracts.
Striker Donis Avdijaj has signed a five-year deal after the 17-year-old netted 15 goals in 13 games for the Under-19s this season while 18-year-old defenders Marvin Friedrich and Pascal Itter have both signed three-year contracts.
