The Swabians cut the gap at the top to three points with the victory, which came courtesy of a brace from Kevin Kuranyi, strikes from Aleksandr Hleb and Silvio Meissner and an own goal from Raymond Kalla.
Goncalves Edu and Marcel Matritz bagged consolation strikes for Bochum.
Bayern had come from behind to put themselves in the lead against Nurnberg, with Roy Makaay cancelling out Markus Schroth's opener and Ze Roberto giving the Munich giants the lead.
However, a goal from Ivica Banovic 16 minutes from time earned the hosts a 2-2 draw.
Reigning champions Werder Bremen looked superb, as they hammered Freiburg 6-0.
Angelos Charistaes scored a hat-trick to add to a Miroslav Klose brace, with Johan Micoud also on target.
Bizarrely, there was second 6-0 result in Die Bundesliga - with Hertha Berlin thrashing Borussia Monchengladbach.
Yildiray Basturk scored twice, with Giuseppe Reina, Nando Rafael, Alexander Madlung and Marcelinho also getting on the scoresheet.
Franca's last ditch goal gave Beyer Leverkusen a 2-1 victory over Wolfsburg.
Diego Kimowicz had given The Wolves the lead in the fourth minute, only for Andrej Voronin to level before Brazilian Franca sealed a late victory.
Arminia Bielefeld drew 1-1 with Hansa Rostock. Patrick Owomoyela celebrated his call up to the German squad with the equaliser after Antonio di Salvo had opened the scoring.
Finally, Hannover picked up a 2-0 win over Hamburg on their travels.
Steve Cherundolo and Daniel Stendel were the scorers for Hannover.
