Umit Davala has rejected reports that suggest he could be facing a jail sentence.Turkey international Umit Davala has rejected reports that suggest he could be facing an eight-year jail sentence.
The Werder Bremen defender is the subject of a court case in his homeland at the end of February, after being accused of threatening to use a gun on journalists who were pursuing him in a club two years ago.
''Reports that I could be going to jail for eight years are completely wrong,'' confirmed Davala.
''What I am supposed to have done could maybe lead to eight months, but not eight years. But even then I would have had to have threatened them with a weapon and I didn't do that.
''All that happened was a bit of pushing and shoving after the photographers refused to leave me and my companions alone.
''I just don't understand why this is being blown up out of all proportion. If the situation was really as serious as is being reported, then I would have been arrested at Werder's winter training camp in Turkey.
''And besides, I would hardly be in the Turkish squad for the upcoming February internationals.''
