Frank Baumann was left stunned after being overlooked by Jurgen Klinsmann.Werder Bremen skipper Frank Baumann was left stunned after learning that he was overlooked by Jurgen Klinsmann when the Germany coach nominated his squad for next week's friendly against Argentina.
Baumann was expected to be given a chance to showcase his skills after missing the trip to Asia at the end of last year, but Klinsmann has opted to overlook the Werder schemer.
While Baumann wants to star for Germany in defensive midfield, where he was vital in helping Werder to win last season's double, Klinsmann has opted to stick with Bayern duo Michael Ballack and Torsten Frings for those positions and regards Baumann as a defender.
"When I told him that I couldn't make the trip to Asia [in December 2004], he told me that I'd get a new chance against Argentina," Baumann told Kicker.
Klinsmann informed the 29-year-old that he will be considered for the trip to Slovenia on March 29, but Baumann has his doubts.
"I can only watch and see what happens," he lamented.
The news is likely to open a new row in the dispute between Bremen and Klinsmann about the role of Werder players in the national team as the Bundesliga champions will only be represented by midfielder Fabian Ernst and defender Frank Fahrenhorst, while midfielder Tim Borowski was surprisingly also overlooked by Klinsmann.
