Werder Bremen lost 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen to damage their European hopes.Werder Bremen slipped up in the race for the UEFA Champions League spots as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen.
The home side consolidated seventh place with the useful victory as Bremen remain six points behind second-placed Schalke.
Leverkusen took an early lead as Polish star Jacek Krzynowek struck after just three minutes and doubled their lead on 37 thanks to Croatian midfielder Marko Babic (pictured).
Bremen hit back just a minute later through German front man Miroslav Klose, although Thomas Schaaf's side could not complete the comeback and failed to take any points from the tie.
The relegation clash between FC Nurnberg and Borussia Monchengaldbach failed to yield a winner as the game finished in a 0-0 draw.
Monchengladbach remain four points behind Nurnberg and currently lie just two points clear of the drop zone.
