Werder Bremen are chasing AEK Athens star Kostas Katsouranis.Bundesliga side Werder Bremen are chasing AEK Athens star Kostas Katsouranis as the UEFA Champions League starters are still searching for a replacement for Bayern Munich bound defender Valerien Ismael.
Brazilian ace Naldo appeared to top Bremen's wish-list, but talks about the transfer have stalled lately and the Green-and-Whites seem set to opt for Katsouranis instead.
Werder are believed to have tabled on offer of é¼2.5 million for the Euro 2004 winner and although AEK have so far insisted that the 26-year-old will have to fulfil his recently renewed contract until 2007, the player's agent, Paul Koutsoliakos, is confident that a deal can still be struck.
"There had been reports in the Greek press that Katsouranis has turned down Bremen, but I don't think that's true. Kostas wants to join Werder," insisted Koutsoliakos.
AEK value the 23-times capped Greek international in the é¼3 million class and it remains to be seen if the Germans are willing to up their offer in order to land their man.
