Werder Bremen and Hamburg started their Bundesliga campaigns with wins.Werder Bremen opened their Bundesliga campaign in emphatic fashion with a thumping victory over Arminia Bielefeld whilst Hamburg also won to emulate Bayern Munich's opening victory on Friday.
Bremen ran out 5-2 victors at the Weser Stadion as the potent strike force of Ivan Klasnic and Miroslav Klose bore fruit once again as the duo grabbed a brace each.
Frank Baumann also netted for the home side whilst Bielefeld managed to restore parity twice in the early stages through Nebojsa Krupnikovic and Sibusiso Zuma before losing their grip on the tie.
Hamburg, fielding new signing Rafael van der Vaart, also ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Nurnberg as Emile Mpenza set the tone early on with a strike after just three minutes.
Sergei Barbarez then took control as he first dispatched a penalty on the stroke of half time before grabbing his second on the hour mark.
Giovanni Trapattoni's first league game as Stuttgart manager started brightly although tailed off somewhat as his side took a point away from their 1-1 draw at MSV Duisburg.
Brazilian striker Cacau scored after just four minutes although Abdelaziz Ahanfouf hit back on 31 before Cacau turned from hero to villain after being dismissed for violent conduct.
Borussia Dortmund conceded a late goal to see them achieve a credible 2-2 with Wolfsburg at the VW Arena.
The home side took the lead through Diego Klimowicz although Dortmund fought back through strikes from Eby Smolarek and Jan Koller (pictured).
However, cash-strapped Dortmund were dealt a blow just a minute later as Dutch defender Kevin Hofland restored parity.
Hannover and Hertha Berlin were also held to a 2-2 stalemate at the AWD-Arena, although the away side could have taken all three points after being in an advantageous situation on the hour.
A Marcelinho penalty and an Artur Wichniarek strike put Hertha two goals in front although Hannover hit back through Christoph Dabrowski and Michael Tarnat.
Cologne started their first season back in the top flight with a 1-0 over FSV Mainz as Bjorn Schlicke grabbed all three points with a penalty three minutes from time.
