Werder Bremen have confirmed Umit Davala will leave the club.Werder Bremen have confirmed Umit Davala will leave the club during the Bundesliga's winter break.
The Turkish defender will have his contract terminated by mutual consent on New Year's Eve after suffering from a string of injuries over the past 18 months.
Davala enjoyed a productive debut campaign with Bremen as he helped the club to win the German double in 2004.
But he has barely featured since then and has missed much of the current campaign due to a hip injury.
He will now be free to seek out a new club during January's transfer window and Bremen's general manager Klaus Allofs feels Davala's exit will be beneficial.
"It has been difficult for Umit to regain a place in the team after the injuries he suffered in recent months," Allofs told the club's official website.
"He is now looking for the chance to prove himself at another club and after all our good work together we don't want to block his way."
