Fritz to join Bremen

Bayer Leverkusen defender Clemens Fritz has agreed to join Werder Bremen in the summer.

Bayer Leverkusen defender Clemens Fritz has agreed to join Werder Bremen in the summer.

The 25-year-old has agreed a three-year deal at the Weser Stadion and will move on a free transfer.

Bremen sports director Klaus Allofs said: "He is good on the ball, quick and plays in a position where we need to strengthen our squad."

Meanwhile, Bayer boss Rudi Voller has indicated that penalty-taking goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt could be leaving the club at the end of the season.

"We know what we have in Jorg, but it is simply a financial question," Voller said.

"It is obvious that we won't be offering him a new deal to the same conditions as his current one."

Butt has been with the club since 2001 helping them to the UEFA Champions League final in 2002.
