Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan has left Werder Bremen to join Mainz.
Egyptian international Mohamed Zidan has left Werder Bremen and sealed a permanent move to strugglers Mainz.
The 25-year-old had failed to establish himself at Bremen after returning to the club following last season's highly-successful loan spell at Mainz and has now decided to commit himself to the Bruchweg-Stadium until 2010.
Managing director Christian Heidel was delighted about Zidan's return: "I have never fought as hard for a player as for him and we are very happy that the transfer is finally a matter of fact."
Both clubs refused to reveal any financial details of the move, but it is expected that Mainz paid a club-record fee of é¼2.5 million in order to land him.
Mainz are stuck at the bottom of the Bundesliga - six points adrift of safety - and coach Jurgen Klopp hopes that Zidan will help to end his teams' goal draught.
