In a keenly-contested encounter, Bochum raced into a fifth minute lead courtesy of Thomas Christiansen.
But the advantage lasted less than 60 seconds as Diego Klimowicz levelled, and then Robson Ponte fired the visitors ahead on 37 minutes.
After the break, the hosts battled back and two goals in a minute from Frank Fahrenhorst and Paul Freier (pictured) turned the game on its head.
With less than ten minutes remaining, Vahid Hashemian wrapped up the points for Bochum.
Stuttgart also had to fight back with two goals in the closing ten minutes earning them a 2-1 triumph at Nurnberg.
David Jarolim put Nurnberg into the lead on the stroke of half-time before Kevin Kuranyi equalised on 80 minutes.
Just four minutes later, Ioannis Amanatidis nicked the spoils for Stuttgart to lift his club into mid-table.
