Bordon has already agreed a contract with Schalke 04 which starts in 2005 and Stuttgart are now in negotiations with the Royal Blues about an immediate transfer in order to ensure that they do not lose the prolific marksman for free.
Stuttgart are expected to net around é¼3 million for the highly-rated Brazilian and this amount should enable them to add the 23-year-old Stranzl to their squad over the summer.
"We won't be able to fully replace Marcelo, but he [Stranzl] is one of our candidates," said Sammer who succeeded the Bayern Munich-bound Felix Magath at the Gottlieb-Daimler stadium.
Stranzl, once a transfer target of David O'Leary while he was at Leeds United, joined the Lions at the age of 16 but feels that he has to leave in order to keep his promising career flourishing at one of Germany's bigger clubs.
