Benfica's response proved tepid and on 73, German international Kevin Kuranyi headed in a rebound after Jose Moreira had saved from Zvonimir Soldo to register Stuttgart's third of the evening.
In Group G's other clash, Dinamo Zagreb destroyed Beveren 6-1 on home soil.
