New Streller setback

Stuttgart striker Marco Streller's comeback from injury has been put on hold.

Stuttgart striker Marco Streller's comeback from injury has been put on hold after a new operation.

The Swiss international striker has been out of action for the whole of the current season after breaking his shinbone in the summer.

He made his return for the Schwaben in a friendly against Reutlingen last week but complained of pains after the match.

A further examination revealed the need for another operation and the tall hit-man will now be forced to sit out training for a minimum of three weeks.

"The latest operation is annoying for us, but small setbacks are normal with an injury such as his," said VFB coach Matthias Sammer.

"But we are still looking optimistically towards the future and are confident that Marco will be available to play again soon."

With Kevin Kuranyi and Cacau firing on all cylinders, the side third in Die Bundesliga may not miss the 23-year-old too much as they look to catch Bayern Munich and Schalke at the summit of the table.
